Celebrating Black History at St. Paul’s High School

St. Paul’s High School is pleased to welcome Ms. Nadia Thompson and Mr. Andre Sheppard for a school-wide assembly on Monday, February 10th from 8:30 to 9:25 am.

Ms. Thompson, Chairperson and Program Director for Black History Manitoba, has been a dedicated member of the organization since 2008. Black History Manitoba, founded in 1981, is committed to educating Manitobans about the significant contributions of the Black community to both Canadian and global history.

Joining her will be Mr. Sheppard, who brings insight into key moments and figures in Canadian history, including the 21st Battalion, Percy Haynes, and the Sleeping Car Porters. Together, they will share their expertise and personal experiences to engage and educate our school community on the lasting impact of Black Canadians.

Ms. Thompson will also emphasize the importance of giving back to the community and how understanding history shapes our future. This assembly builds on the experience of several Maroon and White Society members who recently attended a Black Student Union Summit hosted by Ms. Thompson on January 24th.

We look forward to this meaningful opportunity for our students and staff to deepen their understanding of Black history and its continued influence on Canadian society.
