The Freshman Retreat

Congratulations and many thanks to all the student-leaders, faculty, and staff, on this year's Freshman Retreat which took place December 11–12.

  • The purpose of the retreat was to help ensure a smooth transition of new students to St. Paul's, to provide an opportunity to build friendships, and to be welcomed into our community by the senior students. The theme of the retreat was TEAM: "Together Everyone Achieves More" with a focus on building our school community into a cohesive unit while taking care of one another, learning to be aware of God's presence in our daily lives, and finding opportunities to work together to overcome all challenges we encounter.
  • All members of the Grade 9 class participated in the retreat. The retreat is 100% student led with fifty-six Grade 12 students serving as leaders/mentors for groups of Grade 9 students. In addition, there was around twenty-five Grade 10 and 11 students who worked behind the scene to look after all of the logistics during the retreat. The teachers responsible for coordinating the retreat were Mr. Klimenko and Mrs. Kochanski. We are also grateful to the many alumni, clergy members, service placements, parent-drivers, parents who opened their homes for meals, the cafeteria staff for looking after many meals, and especially to Mrs. Kochanski and the Grounds Crew for looking after all the logistics and coordinating over the two days. A special thank you to Mr. Hurton for being present during the whole retreat to help with audio visual needs as well as all the staff members who helped support the retreat at various moments to help make the retreat a success.

From the Counselling Department

  • Wishing all students a very restful Christmas break.  Students should not feel any obligation to do schoolwork over the holiday break.  We also emphasize that exams run in the last week of January, leaving three full weeks to organize and prepare.  We ask parents to encourage their sons to fully enjoy his Christmas holidays and not feel pressure to do school related work or exam preparation.

From the Parent Guild

Safety Reminder: Be Cautious of Icy Conditions

With the recent fluctuations in weather, freeze-thaw cycles are creating potentially slippery conditions in our parking lots, entryways, and inside the school. Please be extra cautious and watch your footing in these areas, especially where melting snow may create wet patches indoors.

Remind your sons to be careful as well, particularly if they are running late or in a rush. A moment of caution can help prevent slips, falls, and other accidents.

Our Maintenance team is actively clearing snow and applying salt and grit on school grounds to maintain safe conditions.
