Importance of Remembrance
While November is recognized as a time of Remembrance for many across Canada, Remembrance is a year-long commitment. There are many opportunities available to anyone wishing to show their appreciation for those who served. Most importantly, we should all take a moment now and then to reflect on the freedoms and peace in our lives, to remember the men and women who served and sacrificed for all we have today, and to pray for peace and eternal rest for all who lost their lives protecting the freedoms of Canadians. Lest We Forget.
Prayer Requests
The Church has dedicated November as a time of prayer for the deceased. If you have any deceased friends or family members you would like to be remembered in prayer at the weekday liturgies at the school, feel free to send an email to Fr. Con Mulvihill, St. Paul's High School Chaplain, at cmulvihill@stpauls.mb.ca
The names of senders and of the deceased will be confidential.
Lord our God,
Today we remember times of war, times when men and women served our nation, and fought and died so that we might live in freedom.
We are thankful for the sacrifices that our soldiers, sailors, and aircrew made so that their brothers and sisters and the generations that followed them could live in peace.
We recall those who served far away, and those who served at home, and we thank them for what they have done to hold high the torch and take up the struggle against evil.
We thank you, Lord, for those who serve today in the armed forces, and we humbly pray that you keep them safe and make their labours a force for peace in the world.
May all nations and peoples on earth live together as one family–to care so that no one will be oppressed or afflicted by violence–to love and respect one another despite our differences, so that freedom might be a reality and that your Kingdom may be realized in our world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

We are pleased to announce that Fr. Jeffrey S. Burwell, SJ, the Provincial of the Jesuits of Canada, will be visiting St. Paul’s High School for the first time in his new role. Fr. Burwell, who assumed his responsibilities on July 31, 2024, brings a wealth of experience in education and pastoral service. His doctoral research focused on Catholic schools in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and he has lectured in Catholic studies at St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba and Campion College at the University of Regina. In addition to his academic work, Fr. Burwell has served as a chaplain to the RCMP and to prisoners, and has ministered in Dene and Cree Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The Provincial is the leader of a specific geographic region within the Society of Jesus, responsible for guiding the province’s mission and providing spiritual and pastoral care to its members. This role is deeply spiritual and extends beyond administrative taks.
We look forward to welcoming Fr. Burwell to our school community and to continuing our partnership with the Jesuits of Canada under his leadership.

We are excited to announce a special all-school assembly on Friday, 15 November, featuring the Robb Nash Project, a powerful initiative aimed at promoting mental health awareness and resilience, especially among young people. This event is part of our recognition of Men’s Mental Health Day, occurring on November 16th, and will take place in the morning at the Multiplex.
Robb Nash, a Manitoba rock artist and mental health activist, turned a severe head injury from a car accident into a mission to inspire others facing addiction, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Through the Robb Nash Project’s program, Stories of Life through Darkness, students will experience interactive video modules that share real-life stories of young people who have faced significant challenges. With a blend of music, storytelling, and reflection, the presentation guides students to understand the journey from struggle to strength, fostering empathy and reinforcing the message that no one is alone in facing difficulties.
This initiative, led by the Maroon & White Society, aims to remove the stigma around discussing mental health, encouraging open and honest conversations. Students are encouraged to wear casual dress code and can purchase a green ribbon for $2 in support of Men's Mental Health. Proceeds from this initiative will go directly to the Robb Nash Project, helping to further support those who face mental health struggles.
The assembly will also highlight valuable mental health resources through partnerships with organizations like Kids Help Phone, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and Telus Health. During the lunch hour, school counsellors will be available for one-on-one support, and the Maroon & White Society will have a table set up in the library hallway with additional information on men’s mental health and the Robb Nash Project.
Together, we are committed to fostering a compassionate and supportive environment for all students. We encourage anyone facing challenges to reach out to their counsellor at St. Paul’s for support.
