Evening of Perorming and Visual Arts

Join us for an in-person music concert and art exhibition.
• Date: Tuesday, 28 May
• Time: 7:00 p.m.
• Place: MultiPlex

​​The evening will feature musical performances by grade 9–12 students in concert and jazz bands. The choir will also perform and student artwork will be on display. All are welcome. 

Student Council Spirit Week

The last Spirit Week of the 2023–2024 school year will occur from Monday, May 27 to Friday, May 31. Included below are details for the dress code days and the lunch activities. More information is available for students on Teams, on school TV monitors and through daily announcements. We look forward to seeing everyone get involved in some way!

Monday, May 27

Dress Code Theme: Decades Day
Students and staff are encouraged to dress up in a specific decade’s attire. Outfits should be a clear example of the decade and an example or ‘inspo’ picture might need to be shown if the outfit is unclear.

Lunch Activity: Lip Sync Battle
Students and staff are invited to ‘sing’ in St. Paul’s first Lip Sync Battle! Students can win big with four different categories (‘best performance’, ‘most passionate’, ‘best dance moves’ and ‘student favourite’)! Pre-song selection and sign-up is required, deadline is Thursday, May 23.

Tuesday, May 28

Dress Code Theme: Crazy Hat Day
Students and staff are asked to wear any type of crazy headwear for the day. Effort is required so students are asked to leave their normal baseball hats and swap it for something more interesting! Whatever students choose to wear in the morning must be worn throughout the entire day.

Lunch Activity: Capture the Flag
Core groups will sign up two students for a capture the flag game! Games will be 15 minutes on the field with 9s v. 10s and 11s v. 12s.

Wednesday, May 29

Dress Code Theme: Anything But A Backpack Day
Bring your supplies, just not your bag! Students and staff should come to school using anything but a backpack for the day. Participants should keep their ‘backpack’ with them throughout the day.  

Lunch Activity: Students v. Teachers Trivia
Students will challenge a team of teachers in trivia in a team of 4 for revenge. 8 teams total (one of Student Council members) will take part in rounds of trivia against 1 team of teachers. Categories will include math, sports, science, pop culture, and miscellaneous (politics, history, etc.). Students are asked to sign up by Friday, May 24 and only the first 7 teams will be accepted.

Thursday, May 30

Dress Code Theme: Jersey Day
Students and staff will wear clothing from any sports team. Jerseys should be clearly identifiable; jackets with simple logos or backpacks with club teams will not count.

Lunch Activity: EA Sports NHL Tournament
16 students will play for their honour in Student Council’s EA Sports NHL Tournament (‘chell). In the MP over lunch, 3 rounds of 2-minute games will be played on PS4 in a single elimination style bracket. The last two standing will face off in a final match. Sign up will open at 3:20 PM on Wednesday, May 22 – first come, first served!

Friday, May 31

Dress Code Theme: Beach Day
Warm weather (fingers crossed) call for beach clothes. Come in your colourful shorts, Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses, beach hats, etc. No swimsuits or tank-tops will be allowed. 

Lunch Activity: Water Balloon Fight & Relay
Get ready, Friday’s lunch hour is full! Each core group will sign up two people, one for the gr. 9-12 water balloon fight AND one for the water relay. Each grade will complete a water relay with the fastest team winning free casual dress code for their WHOLE GRADE on Monday, June 13th. Legs of the relay include passing, targets, and running.

Wednesday, 29 May: Late Start for Students

Schedule IV is in effect. Note the assembly originally planned on this date has been moved to Monday, 3 June. Further details to come next week. 

Thursday, 30 May - All School Assembly

St. Paul's High School welcomes a special guest for an all school assembly. Attendance is compulsory for all students. Schedule V is in effect.

Semester 2 Exam Reminders

Click HERE to view the Semester 2 Exam Schedule.  

As a reminder, students are expected to write exams at the end of each semester as scheduled. Planned absences during exams should be avoided except in cases of emergencies. In such cases, students may be permitted to write exams on alternate dates with administrative approval. Writing exams prior to the first day of scheduled exams will not be accommodated. 

All grade twelve students are required to write a provincial assessment in the applicable math course.

  • June 11th: Pre-Calculus Math
  • June 12th: Essential Math
  • June 13th: Applied Math

University Planning - U of M

Grade 12 students wanting more information about their first year at the University of Manitoba can check out videos or make in-person appointments with the First Year Centre: First Year Planning. Counsellors at the Centre can help with general questions, course selection, scheduling, parking and more. 

The First Year Planning Guide is also a great resource.

 

Career and Education Expo

Future Now Expo is Manitoba's largest career and education Expo, with over 100 organizations in attendance to help students explore various career paths and educational opportunities. Tickets are free but must be registered for in advance. 

May 29th 5:00–8:00 p.m., Red River Exhibition Park, 3977 Portage Avenue.

 

Scholarships Featured this Week

Big Sun Athletics Scholarship is an award of $500 given to a student who participates in any sport, at any level.  It requires a 500–1,000 word essay.  Due: June 19th

Cambrain Credit Union Scholarships are five prizes awarded to any Cambrian member in the following areas:  Community Champion/Academic Excellence, Health and Wellness, Arts and Culture, Community Care, and Education.  Due: May 31st

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship is a $1,000 prize for a winning essay.  Due: June 10th.

Scott Naujoks Memorial Award is dedicated to the memory of St. Paul's alumni Scott Naujoks. The award will be of particular interest to any student who coaches football or volleyball, and/or student-athletes. Due: June 30th

 

Grade 9 and 10 Exam Study Schedules

Next week, grade 9 and 10 students will receive a proposed study schedule to help them manage their time heading into exams. Students can access the schedule in Teams.
