Schedule IV is in effect.
On September 21st, students from St. Paul’s, St. Mary’s Academy and Balmoral Hall School will participate in the 45th Annual Walk. The St. Paul’s Student Council has been hard at work these past few months preparing for a fun-filled day.
An online permission form was sent to all parents and is also located at the bottom of this message. This form must be completed in order for students to participate on September 2st. The $12 Walk fee and optional Walk sweater purchase may be paid online when filling out the permission form, however, Permission Click does charge a 5-7% service fee for all online payments. As an alternative, payment may be made either by cash or cheque. Cheques should be made out to St. Paul’s High School. Please have your son deliver his payment to Room 127 during the lunch hour. Permission and payments are due on Friday, September 15th. If these steps have not been completed, your son will have received a message on Teams requesting action to be taken.
This year, Student Council will be fundraising for The Link: Youth and Family Supports. All funds collected will be directly donated and allocated to The Link’s Mobile Crisis Team, a service that supports youth and families with safety and mental health concerns. Students who were collecting pledges should deliver the collected money (cash or cheque) and their pledge form to their core-group teacher by Monday, September 18th at the latest. Students who have raised $100 or more will receive a free Walk sweater. These will be distributed on September 18th, 19th, and 20th.

Emphasizing and promoting the value of magis – seeking more – to do more, to be involved in more, to be a person beyond yourself, the Maroon & White is hosting a special event.
The Get Involved Fair provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the many extracurricular activities that St. Paul’s offers its students. Students will have the opportunity to speak with staff and students involved in various school activities to learn how they can join and get involved in co-curriculars at St. Paul's.
This year’s Get Involved Fair is scheduled for Friday, 22 September at lunch in the cafeteria.
At St. Paul's High School, every student is assigned to a counsellor. If you want to find out the name of your son's counsellor, watch the quick video on the right showing you how to access this information through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
University and Scholarship Information
On Tuesday, 12 September all grade 12 students attended a presentation about university and scholarships. A recording of this presentation will be available to parents next week.
One scholarship discussed was the Loran Award.
The Loran Award is valued at more than $100,000 over four years of university undergraduate studies, including an annual stipend, matching tuition waivers, mentorship, funding for summer work experiences, and participation in an extensive network of past and present Loran Scholars. Selected on the basis of strength of character, commitment to service, and the potential for leadership, Loran Scholars are young people who are humble, inquisitive, and thoughtful; who shun the status quo and pursue unique paths; who collaborate and bring others along; and who will act in the face of injustices to build a better future for all.
After the presentation, the following information was sent to all grade 12 students:
Loran Scholarship
If you are interested in more information about the Loran Award (it's the BIG one!), you may want to attend an online information session about the scholarship. There are two options:
PLEASE NOTE THE TIME DIFFERENCE. We are one hour earlier in Winnipeg.
General information can be found HERE.
The application deadline is October 11th at 7 pm.
AES Engineering Scholarship
Another scholarship with an early application deadline that was sent to students this week is the AES Engineering Scholarship.
Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question:
When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?
Amount of award: $500.00
Deadline for entry: October 8, 2023
Applying to Ontario Universities
Students planning to attend a university in Ontario must apply to one centralized site called OUAC. Applications are then forwarded by OUAC to up to three universities of the student’s choice. The OUAC site will be open for applications for the grad class of 2024 on September 21, 2023.
Please take a moment to check out the updated SPHS school website for valuable information and the steps on how to get involved in the school. https://www.stpauls.mb.ca/
Volunteering at St Paul’s is not onerous; your involvement can be as much or as little as you want. We want to challenge you to come to the school; to meet teachers, parents, and students from a different lens.
We use a scheduling system called Sign Up, which makes it easy to agree or to decline a volunteering time. After you sign up, an email notification will come out a few weeks prior to the event. Through a link you indicate if you want to volunteer or ignore the message if you are unable to give your time. It’s that simple! Scan the QR code on the right to take you to the Parent Guild SignUp page!
A big thank you to all the parents who attended the first Parent Guild meeting this past Wednesday. It was great to have a packed room with parents/guardians representing all the grade levels.
